Do You Want More Time to Focus on Student Achievement? Work on Time Management and Priorities

For some of you, the school year is already underway, has begun, or will soon.   Time management can be quite a challenge as you work with your students and balance other responsibilities and duties.  The goal of staying focused on items that directly impact student achievement can often get pushed aside in the busyness of the day.

Stephen Covey’s time management matrix is an effective tool to address this issue.  It is based on two ideas: importance and urgency.  Prioritizing the items that occur throughout the day can really help focus your energies.  As you begin to use the matrix, you need to determine where most of your energy and time fall.  Then you need to start to prioritize your daily tasks as well as long term goals and projects.  See the links below the visual for more explanations.
